One of my coworkers is known for his love for whiskey, so when his birthday rolled around and he didn’t have any specific requests, I had to get a little creative. Eventually, I honed in on the concept – fudge brownies, iced with a little kick from whiskey!

Fudge Brownies with Whiskey Frosting
  • 1 cup salted butter melted
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs large
  • 1 1/2 cups flour whole wheat preferred, all purpose OK
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup half and half
  • 2 tbsp whiskey or other spirit
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, mix butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Whisk in eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, cocoa and salt. Add to butter mixture, and stir until combined. Pour and evenly spread into a 9x13 pan lined with parchment or foil. Bake 25-30 minutes, shorter for gooier consistency.

  1. Melt butter in a small saucepan. Whisk in cocoa, half n half, and whiskey. Add sugar 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Pour over brownies immediately.
